Houston Zoo Lights Ticket Page on iMac

Houston Zoo Lights

Scope

Houston Zoo engaged GloboTek in the Autumn of 2017 ahead of the 2017 Zoo Lights season. Our brief was simple – to redevelop the Zoo Lights micro-site as it was clunky to manage and had mobile responsiveness issues. Therefore, we assessed the existing site for technical and design issues. We also consulted with the zoo to understand better what features were missing and where improvements to managing the site could be made.

Implementing Changes

After the review and consultation, we rebuilt the frontend but eliminated the design issues the site had. Then, we implemented several new features to make managing the site less time consuming and simpler. We developed a completely new ticket management system that fed into the existing ticketing calendar. As simple as it may be, we added a feature for site-wide notifications. This small addition allows the site admins to broadcast important information to visitors about the zoo.

Key Features

Multi-tier Ticketing System

Houston Zoo can set 3 tiers of ticketing price and date depending on their requirements. This information is then fed into a bespoke calendar component for users to make purchases from.

Easily Managed Content

The site is built so the ticketing and content can be managed entirely from the backend. Therefore, the site admins are able to manage seasonal updates without needing to call in a developer.

Fully Responsive

The site works on all devices which is essential in the case of Houston Zoo. Much of the zoo's traffic comes from mobile devices so the site must work as well on desktop as it does on mobile.
